From the District ONE Governor

Fellow Members,

We just finished an outstanding TLI. The team did an exceptional job. Thank you for all your hard work and effort. Thank you, also, to all of the club officers who attended and received their training. You are greatly helping your club be successful in more ways than one. Those officers who were not able to be trained at the TLI can attend one of the numerous trainings that will be scheduled during the months of January and February. Please check the Event Calendar for dates.

We have some exciting events coming up in the near future. On February 11, 2012, District ONE will hold its first College Leadership Symposium at Loyola Marymount College. We will have a great keynote speaker, the college club officers can be trained and there will be special workshops for college students. It promises to be a great place for the colleges to network and share ideas.

Our second Membership Symposium will be happening on February 25th at the Joslyn Center in El Segundo. Last year this was an amazingly informative opportunity to learn how to build membership growth and retain members with stimulating meetings. Our Regional Advisor, Joyce Persichilli, will again be joining us for the event.

Contest season is just around the corner. Now is the time to start planning your club contest. Club contests should be held during the month of February. Most of the Area Contests will be held during March and the Division Contests will be held in April. All of these contests lead up to the District ONE Conference which will be on May 12, 2012. This season the contests will be Table Topics and International. There are no prerequisites for the Table Topics Contest. A minimum of six speeches is required for a member to compete in the International Speech Contest. Just think, if you win the International Speech Contest, you will also win a free trip to Orlando, Florida to compete.

Don't forget our District Incentives that are designed with you in mind to help sweeten the journey of your club to President's Distinguished.
