Youth Leadership Program

Toastmasters International’s Youth Leadership Program (YLP) is a course in communications created to help develop the speaking and leadership skills of young people ages 14 to 17.

The program is designed as an interactive workshop to be conducted in eight sessions, each session lasting one to two hours. An adult coordinator and assistants help prepare and monitor the sessions; however, the young participants themselves conduct the meetings. At each session, participants learn:

Conducting a Youth Leadership Program fulfills one of the requirements for an ACG (Advanced Communicator Gold) Award.

Ongoing Gavel Clubs for Youth
The Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with Toastmasters, has established Junior Gavel Clubs which meet at local parks. The following clubs are currently meeting, open to youth ages 14-17 for membership / participation.

1. Helen Keller Park Junior Gavel Club
1045 126th Street | Los Angeles
1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 3:00pm - 4:30pm

2. Mona Park Junior Gavel Club
2291 East 121st Street | Compton
2nd and 4th Sundays from 3:00pm - 4:30pm

3. Alondra Park Junior Gavel Club
3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd. | Lawndale
Sundays from 3:00pm - 4:40pm.

4. East Rancho Dominguez Park Junior Gavel Club
15116 Atlantic Blvd. | Compton
Thursdays 5:30pm - 7:00pm.

5. Bodger Park Junior Gavel Club
14900 South Yukon Avenue | Hawthorne
Wednesdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm.
